The festival of Pesach (Passover) is fast approaching, and throughout the Jewish world, families are scrubbing, shopping, cooking and generally preparing for the week long holiday.

As even the smallest particle of chametz (foods containing leavening agents) is forbidden from being owned, never mind eaten, Jews for thousands of years have pulled out all the stops in their attempt to banish the chametz from our homes.
Everything in the physical realm has a “partner” in the spiritual realm. Chametz represents the swelling of ego that enslaves the soul more than any external prison.
With all leavened foods off limits, we turn to the humble matzah. Unlike bread, which rises and swells into a chewy, soft dough with time, matzah is flat and unpretentious; giving nourishment while remaining humble.
In our professional lives we are constantly striving for perfection. We want to be “the best”; the “most successful”; the one who “has all the answers.”This endless quest is exhausting - it can also have some nasty side effects - a lack of humility, a lack of empathy, a lack of generosity.
As we take time away from our busy lives this Pesach to join together with friends and family, let’s try to banish the chametz from more than our homes - and may the message of the matzah guide us to being true professionals, inside and out, so that we return to our desks, renewed, revitalized and ready to contribute our part in making the world a better place.
